What is AdBlock?

Never see another ad, banner or pop-up again. AdBlock is a content filtering plug-in for the Internet Explorer browser. It is both more robust and more precise than any commercial ad-blocker. AdBlock blocks all forms of advertising, including Flash ads, rich media, fly-ins, pop-ups, pop-unders, spyware and adware ads, sponsored link ads, and even messenger ads.

Unlike other ad-blockers, AdBlock will replace webpage ads with placeholders that by clicking on them will reveal the blocked ad – so it won't hinder your normal surfing.

AdBlock in Action

Every time a webpage loads, AdBlock will intercept and disable the elements matching AdBlock filters, replacing them with placeholders like the one below.

Ad Blocked

By clicking on the placeholder, the blocked-ad will be revealed. Try it yourself - point your mouse cursor on the placeholder above and click it!

Advanced Tips

AdBlock utilize several filters to determine which elements to block. You can configure AdBlock through the Control Panel to filter out content based on the following criteria:

Block Ads by Path

Selecting this filter will prevent all elements that contain a matching string to AdBlock's definitions file to be displayed on wepages. The definition file is located in the AdBlock's Resources directory, and can be edited with a regular text editor.

Block Ads by Size

Selecting this filter will prevent all IAB (Internet Ad Bureau) Standard sized elements to be displayed on wepages. There are 16 different standard sizes for banners, buttons, rectangles, pop-ups, and skyscrapers.

Block Macromedia Flash Movies

Selecting this filter will prevent all Macromedia Flash and Shockwave movies to be displayed on webpages, saving you bandwidth and CPU. For more on this feature click here.

Block Windows Messenger Popups

Selecting this option will prevent Windows Messenger Service from displaying pop-up messages on your computer, preventing spammers to send popup spam through the Messenger Service.

Block Text Ads

Selecting this option will block text ads – i.e., content-sensitive ads (like Google's AdSense) that display sponsored link results with a short description. Most people find these ads unobtrusive, but some webmasters use deceptive methods to trick people into clicking these ads.
